WordPress Live Chat Plugin Setup Guide
WordPress Live Chat Plugin: Installation Guide
The Chatisto WordPress live chat plugin brings AI-augmented live chat to your WordPress site in a few steps. This guide walks you through downloading the plugin, configuring your public key, and verifying the widget on your pages.
Prerequisites
- A published Chatisto workspace with at least one knowledge base source.
- Access to your Chatisto public key (found under Settings → Installation in the Chatisto dashboard).
- Administrator access to your WordPress site (WordPress 5.9+ and PHP 7.4+).
Step 1: Download the Plugin
- Clone or download the Chatisto repository and locate the plugin package at
packages/chatisto-wordpress. - Compress the folder into a ZIP file (required for manual upload in WordPress).
- Alternatively, download the ready-made ZIP file from the Chatisto release portal or WordPress marketplace listing (coming soon).
Step 2: Install and Activate
- Sign in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Navigate to Plugins → Add New and click Upload Plugin.
- Select the
chatisto-wordpress.zipfile and click Install Now. - Once the upload completes, click Activate Plugin.
After activation you will see a new Chatisto item in the WordPress sidebar.
Step 3: Configure the Widget
- Go to Chatisto → Widget in the WordPress admin sidebar.
- Paste your Chatisto public key into the Public Key field.
- (Optional) Enable Auto-open Widget if you want the messenger to appear automatically for new visitors.
- (Optional) Keep Lazy Load enabled to defer loading until the page is ready.
- Click Save Changes.
The plugin validates your inputs and stores them securely in the WordPress options table. If the public key is missing, administrators see a reminder banner to complete setup.
Step 4: Verify the Installation
Visit any public page on your site. The Chatisto script (https://sdk.chatisto.com/chatisto-sdk.js) loads asynchronously, and the widget initializes with the settings you chose. If the widget does not appear:
- Double-check that the public key matches the one in your Chatisto dashboard.
- Make sure caching or optimisation plugins are not stripping the loader script.
- Confirm that the widget is enabled in your Chatisto workspace.
Optional: Deploy Across a Multisite Network
The plugin is multisite-aware. Network activate the plugin and configure the public key individually per site. Each site can point to a different Chatisto workspace if required.
Uninstalling
To remove Chatisto from your site:
- Deactivate the plugin via Plugins → Installed Plugins.
- Optionally delete the plugin. WordPress removes the stored settings automatically.
You're free to reinstall the plugin at any time—your Chatisto workspace remains unchanged.
